My students need 3 Microscopes, a Microscope video interface to allow slides to be shared on a TV or Computer, blank slides for student experimentation, and prepared slides for informative research.
The microscopic world around us is fascinating. I always remember the feeling I had looking at a slide of pond water. That same expression has been on the children's faces in labs around the world. I want to allow my students to have these same experiences. As well as others they create.
The students that will use these items range in age from 4 to 19.
They attend a very small charter school, in Arizona, that has a family culture where the children young and old alike look out for each other. The students come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Some of the students were victims of bullying, while others just didn't fit in at their previous schools.
My Project
The equipment requested is: 3 Microscopes, a Microscope video interface to allow slides to be shared on a TV or Computer, blanks slides for student experimentation, prepared slides for informative research. Having the equipment will help to support current classes as well as allow for the creation of elective classes and/or interdisciplinary units. Students in the all the grades will be able to work together and become familiar with equipment that is utilized in the real world. The students will be able to utilize the equipment to do investigations in their science classes, as well as investigate questions of their own. The resources requested are not all inclusive but will allow for a great starting place to build a great science program.
The students at this school have had limited exposure to the microscopic world.
We had a staff member in the past who owned a microscope, which allowed some of the high school students to complete investigations. He has since left the school. The resources here would allow the older students to increase their knowledge but also allow the elementary students to conduct investigations.
