My kids are absolutely incredible. They come from extremely diverse backgrounds, work so hard in and out of school to prepare for their futures, and love their community. Specifically, the students this project would be helping are in high school and could use more easily-accessible technology in their classrooms.
The students I serve are some of the top-performing students in our state, yet due to allotment of state funding rules, we don't get as much funding as we'd like.
Helping us complete this goal would totally change the types of learning they are able to complete in our upper-level school.
My Project
While my school has quite a bit of open outdoor space, it does have limited seating for students while they are working outside. Of this limited seating, some of it is in direct sunlight, which sometimes prevents students and teachers from taking advantage of these spaces for outdoor classroom time. My goal is to provide students with benches, chairs, and tables to create a flexible shaded outdoor seating option for our school.
The shades will allow students to be protected from the sun while still getting to enjoy being outside to complete their school work.
Sometimes students need a change of scenery or change of setting in order to be their most productive selves. Getting outside can also help their mental health by providing a new learning opportunity. Students will also be able to use these spaces during lunchtime or any events held outside on our campus.
