See what Mrs. Vann is requestingMy students need outdoor table umbrellas, stadium seats and seat pad cushions for an outdoor space where they will get comfortable and relax while they learn. We have two picnic tables outside already and want to add materials to make it an inviting and engaging space.

I teach a remedial reading class to low-income, mostly minority students. I have middle school school students who are reading behind grade level and, therefore, are very reluctant readers. My middle school is 100% free lunch and over 90% minority.
Many of our scholars come from single family households without the means to provide their students with the necessary school supplies for the year.
Many of our scholars have experienced indescribable hardships, and they come to school as a safe haven from their personal struggles. Some scholars often have to walk through areas of violence on their way to and from school.
Despite these hardships, we believe that our scholars deserve the best educational experience and that we need to work together with families, schools and the community to provide our scholars with the skills necessary for the best chance to thrive.
We have a courtyard outside of our school that currently has two picnic tables. We want to add materials to make the space inviting so students can get comfortable and become engaged in learning in a new and interesting space. We need outdoor table umbrellas, stadium seats and seat pad cushions.
Adding shade with the umbrellas and more seating options with the floor cushions will provide more seating options so that every scholar can choose the one that is right for them.
Students will be able to use this space to add to their work for science, art, and language arts by being able to look at what is around them. Any class, regardless of content, will be able to use the space.
