My Project
My students have a variety of disabilities including autism, orthopedic, and intellectual. Their disabilities affect each of them differently, but they all enjoy learning in their outdoor classroom. Portable canopies will provide shade and comfort. The garden is also home to several species of hummingbird. The hummingbirds provide a sense of wonder and calm as the students study their habits. The hummingbirds are also important pollinators in our garden.
Some of the students are nonverbal and communicate through art, gestures, pictures, and even electronic devices.
All of the students have tremendous curiosity and enjoy learning. However, they all experience difficulty and some frustration while accessing the curriculum. Many of them have asked for a calm and quiet area to study in when they feel overwhelmed. school.
