Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The students in our school are culturally diverse, working hard, and eager to learn. More than half of them come from low-income families. We have many students with special needs, as well as many who are immigrants. Together, they speak over twenty different languages, are energetic, and love to participate in community events.

In Pre-K we actively embrace the outdoors to foster social connections and build relationships within our community.

We will have reading, playing and eating S'mores with front line workers. This approach not only unites us as a community but also taps into our mental health benefits associated with spending time outdoors. The combination of fresh air, green surroundings, and natural light contribute to reduced stress and improved mood. One such outdoor endeavor that encapsulates these principles is camping. It becomes a collaborative experience as students work together to set up tents, prepare meals and engage in various outdoor activities. These shared experiences go a long way in strengthening the bonds amongst classmates contributing to a sense of community within the school.

To align with our mission in giving and supporting community well-being, we encourage our students to engage in activities that support those in need and workers throughout our community.

We invite people within our community, including the front-line workers, to join us for a day of team-building and camping fun.

Camping situations may present challenges that require problem-solving, fostering resilience and adaptability among students as well as encouraging students to engage in more relaxed and open conversations, promoting positive social interactions and friendships.

In conclusion, our outdoor activities, particularly camping, are not only enjoyable but also integral to the holistic development of our students. By combining nature, teamwork and problem-solving, we contribute to their mental well-being and build a strong sense of community within our school.
