it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a fourth grade teacher in an elementary school in Los Angeles. My class this year loves to talk! They will talk about anything, such as sharing their interpretations of the character Leslie Burke in the book "The Bridge to Terabithia." They will discuss current social issues and put their opinions into writing.
My students enjoy working around the room with pillows and rugs.
They like to spend as little time in their desks as possible and they like the freedom to move and share their ideas freely. In fact, most of the teaching in my class is done on the rug. I want to make my classroom the best possible to accommodate both their movement and ideas.
My Project
Every day my students come to the rug for Reader's and Writer's Workshop to learn skills like building reading interpretations and expressing their opinions with reasons and evidence. The rug is a cozy learning environment where they are elbow to elbow with they peers and ideas can be shared freely.
However, all too often I am tripping over wires and my posters are falling off the board.
My class needs a computer cart and an easel so that I am worried more about the amazing ideas and conversations that are happening on the rug and less about managing all my lesson materials.
