My Students

My 20 kindergarten kids are eager, enthusiastic and active learners. The students range from age 5-6. I want to create a classroom that encourages creativity, innovation and tactile learning. This inspires curiosity and leads them to be lifelong learners. My kindergarteners love to sing, interact with books, play math games, and move and engage in hands-on activities. My school lacks the resources to provide engaging manipulatives that can innovate and stimulate their learning experience. We have seen great strides in their academic abilities with our active learning equipment and want to keep the momentum of lifelong learners.

My Project

I will create a student learning area in the classroom dedicated to STEM education. Students will engage in activities that promote logical thinking and encourage collaboration to find solutions to their challenge.

These materials are the perfect way to inspire Kindergarteners' natural curiosity. Kindergarteners will become their own inventors. My students will use Legos, gears, magnets, rods, art materials to build, plan, explore, and create, with a challenging task in mind. STEM activities will be used during our math, literacy and science time. Our focus is to enhance our curriculum while testing our own theories of forces, magnetic properties, geometry, measurement, simple machines, and structures. My students will dive deeper into the curriculum and create insightful projects. They are enthusiastic to implement these materials not only in science and math, but also in Literacy. In our nursery rhyme and fairy tale unit, Little Bo Beep needs a new structure for her sheep and the Three Little Pigs need a new house. We will collaborate with our peers to find solutions for our characters. The hands-on activities allow learning to be fun, interactive, and collaborative while finding solutions to unique challenges.

A STEM learning center will allow students to explore and engage while becoming lifelong learners of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Hands-on activities and manipulatives will shape the minds of my scientists, engineers, technologist and mathematicians of the future.
