This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
At BCES we believe that every moment with a child is an opportunity to positively influence their life’s trajectory and that teaching and learning should be joyful! When I met my students three years ago I instantly fell in love! Having the opportunity to be their music teacher was nothing less than a blessing! Overtime I came to see past some of their daily struggles both inside and outside of the classroom. They started to express deeper interests in the arts which included music, dance, hip hop, singing etc. When I introduced Belmont Voices to our school, that was when I began to see my students shine!
I consider my students to be the toughest and most talented kids in the city of Philadelphia!
I say this because some of them come to school everyday despite what they struggle with at home and often times they use the arts to channel those negative emotions into something positive! When they see the results of their hard work they become more motivated to learn and progress to be someone greater than they were the day before! The accomplishments of my talented students brings me to tears and joy!
My Project
Some of the highlights of our school last year included vocal performances with the Belmont Charter Voices choir! Each quarter students that are enrolled in music class as well as dance class prepare a 1 hour performance that reflects what they learned. These performances are one of the opportunities that allow our students to take that step towards making something of themselves!
Donating to this project will help make our performances run smoothly and make it be part of an experience that they will always remember!
