Our Tiny Library Needs a Collaborative Workspace

Help me give my students trapezoid marker board tables and chairs to collaborate with their peers or work individually in the library.

My Students

The best students are those who seek to learn. I am fortunate to be surrounded by students that have a desire to succeed. We are a unique school because we are a very small school in a rural community. We serve primarily low income families. Because of our small class sizes and good reputation, we attract a lot of special needs students. Over 25% of our student population are considered to be special needs. We strive to keep class sizes small and to provide an exceptional education to every child.

The library is the heart of the school and I want to make it a more useful space that will encourage learning.

Our small school size means that we have a tiny library. Our library has limited space to provide all of our students the tools they need.

Many of our students come from unstable households. Our school works hard to create the most comfortable environment possible for each and every student.

My Project

Each day I have several students that enter my library looking for a quiet place to work. After a few weeks of the students sitting on the floor, I found an old table in a storage area and four buckets to use as stools. The students love having this space in the library where they know they can work without being interrupted. Even though the table is in terrible need of repair, the students gather around this table to work independently, collaborate with others, or get one-on-one instruction from a teacher.

I invite every student into the library to learn and engage with other students. I hope I can provide them a more comfortable and appropriate space to do just that with these TRAPEZOID marker top tables and chairs.
