Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ten of my rotating crew of 50 eager students arrive each morning to organize scripts, work with microphones and a camera, adjust audio levels, conduct rehearsals to practice and direct the student crew during a 15 minute TV show that broadcasts to the school classrooms. And even though some of our equipment is broken or falling apart, they rise to the occasion and manage to do everything with grace under pressure!
Our students have a great economic need- but they SHINE because they do their best no matter what challenges they face!
We are an elementary public school that serves over 700 students. They come from mostly impoverished backgrounds with over 77% of our students receiving free or reduced lunch. This school community is comprised of Hispanic, African American, Caucasian and Asian students. Our Arts Magnet includes students who participate in dance, drama, music and the visual arts.
My students are proud of their accomplishments and desire to promote positivism school-wide. This TV show, for my students, is about helping our school start the day right, share inspirational moments and learn things that help them grow; a new laptop would certainly help them achieve even MORE!
My Project
My students are impeded by the massively outdated equipment in our TV studio. The computer that my students once used to create fun and motivational video broadcasts for the school is completely inoperable and does not even power up. This lack of appropriately functioning equipment discourages our students who should not ever have to face this kind of negativity at school. Since our broadcast is limited by a broken computer, we cannot stream our TV show to the classroom interactive boards where students learn each day with their teachers.
The donation of this Dell laptop will empower my students to broadcast a high-quality news show that will help our school community begin the school day in celebration of student success and learn about what matters most.
This donation will give students a powerful, high-efficiency laptop computer that can not only handle all the technical capabilities needed to produce our news show but will enable the students to broadcast via our intranet network to stream across our school campus. My students can focus on producing creative, and high-quality news shows that our entire school can enjoy and learn from each and every school day!
My students will no longer feel like they aren't worthy of good high-quality equipment that lets them be creative and empowered. All of our students deserve to have the opportunity to be a part of positive and inspiring experiences at school. This donation will help build an environment and school culture that teaches our students that good tools can help others reach for the stars!
