This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Hello!
We are building our first STEM Academy and this year, it will have three electives- PLTW Medical Detectives, PLTW Automation/ Robotics and Design/ Modeling, and Coding with APPLE Swift.
A few of the PLTW modules include the use of a 3D printer to print prototypes, Robot parts, and prosthetic pieces for a child's toy project. Our scholars will also print models created with the 3D software modeling TinkerCad for the PLTW Design and Modeling class. It will initially be used to print their first names as an introduction project.
Our goal for this project is for students to actively use technology in the classroom- outside of laptops- to expose them to a wide variety of career possibilities as they plan and take their path to higher learning.
Our mission at AKHMS is to increase the college completion rates of marginalized communities across Los Angeles. Our school is no exception, believing deeply in the power of our students and their capability, armed with equitable access to high quality rigorous instruction that can prepare them with 21st century skills. With the implementation and explicit integration of STEM in their daily lives, students will achieve high performance that will directly impact their ability to attend and thrive in colleges and universities.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
