JHS is one of the most high achieving schools in Durham, North Carolina. Our students are the cornerstone of the school's success. Our students come from diverse economic, social, and cultural backgrounds. We have students from Central African Republic, Tanzania, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Mexico, Guatemala, and various other countries. In the hallways of the school, you can hear French, Spanish, Pashto, and Arabic being spoken. Without a doubt, the diversity of our school enriches the student experience.
Additionally, our students are engaged in our school community in various ways.
We have amazing dance, theater, music, and sports programs that ensure students are able to express themselves in numerous ways. Moreover, this year students exemplified their leadership by participating in a walkout to stand up against gun violence. Overall, JHS is a school with incredible students who are determined to be the best that they can be.
This project will improve the college-going culture of our school. This project will also be a celebration of all of our seniors and a reminder to them that the faculty admires the hard work and dedication that they have shown over their high school careers. The celebration of our seniors with juice, snacks, crackers, and treats will show them that after high school there will be greater accomplishments for them to achieve. Additionally, the event also allows our seniors to be role models for their younger peers. Our younger students will be inspired to see their older friends going to college, the military, or working.
