My students need cups, batteries, plates, and other science supplies in order to provide hands-on learning opportunities while using our new Mystery Science curriculum.
My students come from a rural community, with a school system that consists of two elementary schools, a middle school, and a high school. My students are active and inquisitive. They love to move around and learn in many different styles and settings. We are often moving throughout the classroom, collaborating, and engaging with peers. Students practice their reading and math skills and deepen their interest and knowledge in science, social studies, and 21st-century skills.
In efforts for us to meet the Next Generation Science Standards, Mystery Science kits will be implemented in our building.
In our school, our main focus is to teach the science standards while providing hands-on learning, allowing students to learn and explore. My students are always eager to learn and try new things in order to grow as students!
My Project
The materials listed in this project will support K-5 grade students with our new science curriculum. Many materials can be reused, so this project will support learning for years to come.
Our school needs an updated approach to teaching science and these hands-on materials will help our students immensely.
Mystery Science curriculum covers all of the new NGSS standards. Each grade will go through at least three learning units per year.
Each supply will go to our science room for teachers to check out and use during their science instruction. For example, the magnets will be used for hands-on exploration called "What can magnets do?" for our third-grade students. The flashlights will be used for hands-on exploration by first and fifth graders with mysteries called "Can a statue's shadow move?", "Why do the stars come out at night?" and "Why does the moon change shape?"
