Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are creative, thoughtful and full of questions! Our classroom is centered around technology proficiency, social-emotional development, and encouraging a love of reading. As a community, we work to develop a space where all students feel safe to learn. We meet daily to discuss our passions and concerns. We collaboratively write, design, and edit projects on Chromebooks to increase our access to technology for education and growth. We constantly listen to and read new exciting literature to develop our discussion skills, to improve access to the new wonders of the world, and grow a passion for learning.
Each child in my classroom is dedicated to growing and learning about the world, although the method and environment in which they learn best vary greatly.
I incorporate a variety of learning strategies, alternative seating and learning options to ensure that each student's needs are met, right where they are! Students are encourage to work in teams, groups, and partners whenever possible to fuel their growth as life-long learners. My students must also have concrete experiences, field trips, to solidify a real world understanding of their lessons!
My Project
Students are learning about various aspects of plants. We are exploring various leaf textures to explore how plants can protect themselves from insects. We learn about scented plants designed to attach insects to transport seeds and perpetuating plant reproduction. We will grow and cut open carnivorous plants to observe the inner structure. We explore plant growth cycles and collect the compost to complete the cycle. We grow food to eat! The students care for the plants by watering, weeding, and transplanting.
The standards we will address will range from standards addressing Kindergarten-5th grade, such as: the life cycle, ecosystem dynamics, the structure and function of certain plants, and photsynthesis!
