I currently teach Language Arts and Math in my classroom of approximately 25 wonderful students in Kane'ohe, Hawaii. In addition, I teach Science Inquiry to all of our school's fifth graders - approximately 100 wonderful, curious, hard-working students!
Our students strive daily to exemplify our community's 5Rs: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, Relationships, and Resourcefulness.
I am inspired daily by this diverse group of students who brighten each day with their smiles. They truly make teaching, and learning, fun and rewarding every day!
My Project
These materials will help bolster my students' interest in nonfiction texts and provide them with the opportunity to increase their comprehension. The students will benefit greatly by being able to practice informational reading in a wider variety of texts. Having access to the Scholastic magazines on a regular basis will provide students with a chance to keep up with current news and events. In addition, they can use these articles as reliable sources when researching and writing about related topics. My students will see the value in nonfiction / informational texts. I believe this will support their learning throughout their school years and for a lifetime.
