My students need lots of hands-on activities, including alphabet and sequencing beads to assist my young scholars in both math and reading, and a paper center and chart stand to help make our classroom supplies more accessible to the students, which will enable them to use classroom resources more frequently and more easily!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Ours is an urban school in a large city in North Carolina. Most of our students are English language learners. Most also live in high poverty situations. As kindergarteners, they need the opportunity to get off to a good start with their education.
Studies show that students--especially young children--learn more quickly, and retain and apply the material learned for longer periods of time if they can do something that uses all the senses, particularly see, hear, and DO. These kindergarteners are already learning to read and do math but need more opportunities for hands-on experiences!
I need the alphabet beads and the pattern rods to allow them more hands-on opportunities to apply what they are learning in reading and math. The paper organizer and chart stand will provide better storage and access to materials we have so that the students are able to get to and use them quickly and easily.
Some of my precious students have been in homeless situations, and almost all of them are living in poverty. Most of them are English language learners. This is a great opportunity for someone to show them that they not only care, but are willing to go the extra mile to provide things that will help them to the next level academically!
