My Students
My class is amazing.
They are kind, caring, inquisitive, and playful.
They are friendly, they work well in groups, and enjoy opportunities to share and build on what they learn in class each day.
One third of my students come from homes where their primary language is not English and some have little to no English language support available at home. A number of my students have specific learning difficulties, visual impairments, auditory impairments, and behavioral differences that require additional supports.
My Project
Our school district has finally found the funds to adopt new science and English Language Development curriculum kits this year. The resource materials that come with the kits are primarily in electronic formats and need to be printed out so that the students can access them while working in large and small group settings. Resource materials include photo picture cards, vocabulary cards, illustrations, mini charts and worksheets with text differentiated by color, and consumable center activities.
While these can be printed out in black and white, it would be much for beneficial for the students to see photo picture cards, vocabulary cards, illustrations, and mini charts in color while working to make meaning of the natural world and learning to communicate effectively about what they see, think, and feel.
For example, observing, describing and sorting color photos of plants in color is a much more engaging and enriching experience than describing what they see in black and white.
Having the ability to print consumable center activities and worksheets in color will also cut down on teacher prep time because there will be no need to use colored highlighters to indicate how things are organized or labeled or differentiated by color which takes quite a bit of time when working with black and white copies as I do now.
