Our River Tank Needs a New Supply of Plants and Animals!
My students need a set of lesson plans and a new supply of animals and plants for our River Tank .

Hooray! This project is fully funded
Studying a flowing river system inside the classroom; who would have thought that it was even possible? What a wonderful way to study plants and animals - not in a typical aquarium - and to observe the role that each organism plays.
I have the greatest opportunity to teach a wonderful group of fourth grade students in what is considered to be a very economically disadvantaged school.
Our school is experiencing an increasing number of homeless students who are very transient due to their circumstances. But they are very happy children who are like little sponges soaking up all the science they can. I want their school experiences to be a highlight of their daily lives especially when so much is taking place outside the parameters of our school. They deserve to have something to look forward to every day.
A classroom river tank has enabled my children to study plants and animals that would not be in a typical aquarium. Children in the fourth grade study four habitats and one of those habitats is rivers and streams. This river tank enables them to study a river habitat, which includes the plants and animals, right in their own classroom.
Our plants and animals did not survive over the summer months due to many factors in my classroom that have been eliminated or fixed. I would like to fill the river tank again with the wonderful plants and animals such as scavenger fish, snails and dwarf frogs. The plants that need to be replaced are aquatic plants that the fish and frogs will eat and what makes the tank self sustaining.
Please help me make our river tank a self sustaining environment for my children to learn and understand the wonders of a natural habitat by providing animals and plants to refurbish our river tank.
