Help me give my students a creative space to reinforce reading skills for small groups, review phonics skills for fluency, and provide a quiet area to build students' reading stamina.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
The reading nook will provide a creative space to reinforce reading skills for small groups, review phonics skills for fluency, and provide a quiet area to build students' reading stamina.
We are trying to do that by providing early interventions and strong Tier I support in structured phonics and phonological awareness to students in grades K-3.
Reading instruction has been supported by book donations, book parades, author visits, literacy nights, and school-wide reading goals.
The alphabet rug squares, puppets, and puppet theater will make our reading block time come to life and provide role play and interaction for students and teachers.
The alphabet rug will tie into our letter recognition and identification for students. In addition, the puppets can be utilized as a behavior support as well.
All these materials will provide a place for quick interventions for academic support, social-emotional development, fine motor skills, gross motor interventions, and speech. It will limit transition times between groups and allow for more instructional time.
