My students need books! I am a first year teacher, desperately trying to make my classroom a place where my students can learn. Most cannot read yet, but they NEED the exposure!!

My Students
As a teacher in a low-income, high-poverty school district, my students are faced with challenges both inside + outside of school. I am a first year teacher in a self-contained, ABA classroom with severely autistic children, who exhibit behaviors throughout the entirety of our day due to their lack of communication skills. Despite the many challenges that they face, they come to school everyday with a smile on their face. I am looking to make my classroom an environment that is both welcoming + safe for my students. I want to provide them with opportunities that they otherwise would not have access to, and make my classroom a place where they can learn, create + feel comfortable.
My districts budget is $200 per teacher.
With budget cuts, and being in a low-income district, this amount doesn't come close to covering what my students need. I have already spent over $600 of my own money, attempting to get my classroom ready for my students, and would love to do more for them, but just do not have the funds to do so. Your help will change their lives + classroom!
My Project
While my students are non-verbal, and (most) cannot read independently, they LOVE books! They love sitting in our cozy reading nook and looking at the pictures and flipping the pages.
Books manage behaviors!
The only time that my students will sit quietly for an extended period of time, is when I read to them.
My classroom has very limited resources. The few books that were left behind by the previous teacher are either ripped or torn, pages are missing, or are completely outdated. I have been bringing in my sons books to share with my students, but would love to fill my bookshelf with books for my kiddos to have constant access to! They need exposure to literature, especially at this age.
