Our Reading Dog Helps Students to Write!

My students need to switch from Mac to PC with 8 new Chromebooks, using Google docs/apps, to collaboratively write and read stories, especially to our school's new reading dog.

My Students

My students literally cry when trying very hard on their writing assignments. They are beginning to use voice dictation software with huge success. They can share informed ideas and details by reading their writing to each other or to Diesel, our official reading dog.

My students have challenges when trying to organize and formulate ideas to prepare for typical writing assignments.

They are astonished at their output when using voice dictation software. Suddenly, they feel they can contribute to the collaborative writing done with other students through Google docs. Their ideas matter. Diesel is our trained reading "listener". He was a first step in helping these students feel comfortable reading aloud. Now, they are writing their own stories to read.

My Project

We have one computer in which the students from 3rd to 5th grade can use the software necessary for voice dictation. My request is for 8 Chromebooks to use with the Google voice dictation app to be shared between these three grade levels. The cost of one Chromebook is half the cost of buying one license of the typical software used for this purpose. Please help us make the change to solution based hardware so my students can realize the vast opportunities reading and writing will make in their lives.
