Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Education teacher and I teach a preschool, self-contained class.
I teach in a Title 1 school and most of the students receive free and reduced lunch. Our school also has limited supplies because of budget cuts.
My students have varied disabilities ranging from speech and language delays, cognitive delays, gross/fine motor delays, to autism. We spend our day doing many activities to help the students learn and develop skills they are delayed in. Some of my students are very hyperactive and the old method of sitting and listening to the teacher is not successful in my class. Because of my students' short attention span, I have to be very creative in my teaching. I use different methods of teaching to grasp the students attention.
My Project
One of the things we recently received from donors choose is a projector. With this projector, I am able to do interactive lessons with the students. I am also able to project stories for the children to enjoy in a big screen.
Unfortunately I do not have a cart to put the projector on so I have to use boxes and move furniture around every time i use the projector. Or sometimes I will borrow my friends cart in another building. It will be much easier to use the projector if I had my own cart.
Donations to this project will allow me to have a media cart in my classroom which will make it easier for me to use my projector.
I will have my media equipment organized and ready to go and the children will not have to wait for me to set up every time. This will save me time and improve my teaching.
