Mrs. Schultz from Rochester NY is requesting lab equipment through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.

Our students come from all over Rochester, NY, with a large percentage of them living in poverty. 100% of the students receive free lunch. Many of our students have experienced trauma in their lives resulting from violence in their homes and neighborhoods. Many parents work hard at multiple jobs, leaving students at home alone often. As a result, they have fewer opportunities to experience many of the things that non-urban students take for granted.
We have an extended length school day in order to give students more opportunities to have more positive connections and experiences with the school community and to expand the academic and social aspects of these students.
This time allows us to make special connections with the kids, and go above and beyond what we can do in a normal day.
Students best learn from those things that they can experience first hand. This terrarium/aquarium will allow them to see the interaction of the different organisms in an ecosystem. The waterfall kit will allow more options for the type of organisms that will be appropriate to be at home here.
Students will have the opportunity to select different living animals and plants to see biodiversity and the effect of the biotic and abiotic factors that make up a stable ecosystem.
Unique specimens such as the Venus Flytrap and the bog plants will encourage students to engage in our Ecology unit and allow them the chance to extend their learning through the year instead of ending with the unit.
