This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are mini artists in the making. They come from very low income families, and therefore don't get to experience art like most children. They don't have the opportunity to go to museums or color and paint at home. Some of their favorite things are playing soccer, drawing anime, and reading classroom comic books during free time.

Vacationing in the art room is the perfect break they need from a regular school day.

We get to draw superheros and transformers, paint beautiful landscapes, and create projects together to hang up around the school. They love coming to my room and experiencing diverse materials, learning about a new artist or technique, and to just get away from the regular school day.

My Project

My students would really appreciate adding these four pictures to our Mini-Art Museum. Every student and adult should get to experience a day at the art museum and a chance to critically look at famous works of art. Adding these to our collection would give us a total of 10 artworks, meaning we will have one for each month! We will get to practice our various art dissecting strategies, such as slow look, 30 second look, and puzzle strategies.

This mini-museum will give these students an educational experience to remember.

It will not only help us look at artwork, but also help us practice our critical thinking strategies and let us practice creative thinking and accepting multiple right answers. We will all get a chance to find an artwork that connects to us personally, weather it be Hokusai's Great Wave, or Shepard Fairy's Make Art Not War. We will get a chance to get close to the Mona Lisa, because sadly most of my students will never be able to see her in person.
