Our Lost & Found Will Finally Be Found!

Help me give my students a better Lost and Found with clothing racks and hangers for full display as well as signage for its new location in the school.

My Project

The other day, after working with a group of students, I was walking them back to their classroom. On the way, we saw a sweatshirt lying on the floor. I told the students that we would bring it to the lost and found on the way, and they exclaimed, "We have a lost and found?!"

When we arrived, the students looked at me with even more questions.

They could not even tell what they were looking at: There was a large box, shoved into a corner of the cafeteria, filled to the brim with clothing, with other items strewn on the floor around the box. There is a makeshift "Lost and Found" sign near the box, but it is not visible to anyone who is not looking for it.

My students' reactions to this Lost and Found was a wake up call to me. Our students---and their parents who spend their hard-earned money on all of these clothes---deserve better than this!

Students should know where to go to retrieve their clothes. Students should not have to dig through a big box to find what they are looking for. Students should be able to easily find their property. Parents should not have to worry that, once an item is lost, it is gone forever.

With this DonorsChoose project, I will create a very visible, very organized Lost and Found for our school, prominently displayed in the cafeteria. Student items will be displayed on hangers and hooks on coatracks, making this area easier to look through. In addition, during special events at our school and before vacations, clothing will be hung on clotheslines so that items are even more visible and can be claimed more easily.
