This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our program is committed to helping the smallest learners gain BIG skills. Our pre-kindergarten students range from three to five years of age and all of them have been identified with one or more disabilities. Our program is the most intensive Exceptional Student Education (Special Education) program available to pre-kindergarten students. Our students have varying exceptionalities that include; Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental Disorder, Language Impairments, Speech impairments, Behavioral Disorders, and Physical and Health Impairments. These extremely special children have limitations that negatively effect their learning in academics, social skills, learning behaviors, gross and motor skills, safety and self-care, and communication. In addition, all of the families associated in our program are identified as low socio-economic status and do not have access to resources that could greatly improve their skills.
With your help, our tiny learners can gain HUGE achievements, despite their limitations.
All of our students are different from each other in so many ways. However, they have one common interest. . . they love to move! These students LOVE to learn using their bodies and teacher guided instruction. Sadly, our students do not have access to high quality exploration and movement materials without your help.
My Project
My project includes many high quality and engaging motor and exploration materials that will allow my students to apply hands-on learning to increase their skills. The magnetic board and cart and supplemental ramps and cranks will supply my students will an endless amount of experimental trials and increase their knowledge in math, science and spatial understanding. The students will use the number rocks to enhance one to one correspondence as well as rote counting ability. Students will be able to explore ramps and weight to examine how materials move and test student their hypothesis.
These materials will MOVE my students to the next level.
Research shows gross motor skills can improve writing abilities, as well instill expressive and receptive language, and spatial concept understanding. The goal is for our tiny learners to use big thinking to determine outcomes and use their bodies to make learning a fun and meaningful experiences. You can help!
