Ms. Lennon from New York NY is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need books to increase their reading levels. Our school library shelves are bare and the classroom libraries need help.

Are you familiar with the phrase "Reading is Fundamental"? My students have found the fun in fundamental and love to read! But our library book shelves are bare. Our emergent readers are excited about reading and need help with finding books they are highly interested in and desperately need.
I am the librarian for the 700 students in my urban school.
86% of them were not born in this country. Our students are motivated to read and need interesting, low level books to help them learn English. They have become frustrated with the lack of books available in their classrooms and in the school library. The shelves are bare. Many books are tattered and torn. Students simply do not have enough books to choose from. Our community library has been closed since 2012! The low-income parents of the students that attend our school frequently ask for ways to put books in the hands of their children. They understand the lack of funds available to schools for books but plead with teachers to support them. Our students love to read and have parents that want to help them. Books will not only help students in our school increase their reading level, but it will help our school community unite in the name of literacy.
With the many books that your donation will purchase, our English Language Learners will have the low level - high interest books that they desperately need. Instead of leaving the library frustrated at the lack of books available to them, they will have a plethora of books to choose from. Your donation will motivate them to accelerate their reading and achieve success. They will not only be able to read to achieve their own reading goals, but they will also have books on their level that they can then read to family members at home. In school, upper grade students who have recently grasped the English language will now have the tools they need to read to students in lower grades.
Your donation will make it possible for young students to improve their reading skills, become more motivated to read books, and share their love of reading.
It is important for a library to support the needs of the people it serves and I need your help to do that.
