Help me give my students and I the opportunity to make the most of our small group time with some research-proven, ready-made center games and activities!
To be blunt: our school is under-resourced. 100% of my students qualify for free and reduced price lunch. There is about $200 in the budget for my classroom. It can be extremely difficult to provide all the necessary items for a warm, fun, and engaging classroom when these factors are at play.
First-grade is my favorite; everyone is so silly and curious, and I always get so many hugs!
Despite the challenges, my kids are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and do-ers! They come to school every day ready to learn and grow. I am so proud of their resilience and tenacity. I am so lucky to work with them every day!
My Project
Our classroom is well-equipped with pencils, crayons, books, and more! One thing we need more of is well-designed, engaging centers options. We are particularly in need of centers that focus on developing our phonemic awareness and phonics skills.
Centers are an integral part of the typical primary student's day.
Our little bodies have a hard time working on one activity for more than a few minutes at a time! One way to keep students engaged and content throughout the long school day is to provide them with many different options for practicing and building their knowledge.
This project focuses specifically on building students' phonemic awareness and phonics skills. The Lakeshore Instant Learning Centers target specific, fundamental reading skills and help transform struggling readers into confident readers! The headphones will allow students to practice these same foundational skills on our Chromebooks through Freckle, LexiaCore5, Prodigy, and Epic! Books.
As a teacher in an under-served school, it’s my responsibility to make sure that students have all the possible tools to reach their fullest academic potential. In our classroom, these literacy centers will captivate my students' interest and help them to become better readers.
