My Students

My students are a group of highly energetic, amazing children with Behavioral Needs in grades 2 - 5. Many students with Behavioral Disabilities have difficulties in learning new information, communicating, and social interaction.

My students are most engaged through hands-on learning activities and computer-based learning.

My students range in both grade levels and academic levels. Finding activities that can encompass all my learners can be difficult! I teach in an urban elementary school in Milwaukee with a high poverty rate. All of my kids have excellent attendance and have a LOVE of learning!

My Project

The use of whiteboards is almost a daily activity in my classroom. Using the workshop model in math and reading, students work in small groups with whiteboards for guided practice and to record modeled strategies. The whiteboards allow me to see exactly what they are doing, as well as provide an easy place for them to show and share their work. What becomes a problem is the fact that the markers never seem to last, erasers seem to disappear, and the whiteboards slowly become stained from frequent use.

My students learn best by working hands-on.

With the use of the microwave, we will incorporate math, reading, science and social studies into real life skills such as cooking! My students love to eat the food that they have made while learning about different countries, customs, or holidays.

My students each have a personal style of learning and for them to be successful they must be offered a variety of materials in which to learn from.

My students will be very excited to have new, clean whiteboards to use during small group instruction time. Whiteboards are used daily in our classroom. Cooking is what my students look forward to the most in our unique classroom! The microwave will help us to make even more delicious recipes while learning at the same time!
