Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are gifted first, second, third and fourth graders in a low socio-economic area of North Texas. They come from varied backgrounds and cultures. They are talented, imaginative, and creative children; however, they all have one thing in common--they LOVE to learn. Some are talented young artists, others are future novelists, one of them may someday lead our country. ALL of them will definitely need 21st century skills when they leave public schooling and enter into the "real world."
My Project
Our class has just recently discovered an amazing learning and gaming tool, BreakoutEDU. We have materials for four kits in our classroom, but some of these awesome activities also require digital tools for reading QR codes and accessing clues online. While we have computers in the classroom, we need something more mobile to use for these amazing learning games.
These activities involve students in critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving.
The students must work through the clues in the puzzle to unlock Breakout box. The games cover every level and content area imaginable, from basic math for my first graders, to studies science and history for my older students.
In addition to solving the games online, I want to teach my older students to create games for the younger classes. I feel this will reinforce their learning as well as develop their technology skills.
We appreciate you considering our project and for your support of public education.
