My students need flasks, beakers, cylinders, test tubes, and petri dishes to complete labs, and our Science department needs to restock after our lab was destroyed!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our Science Lab (with all our supplies) was destroyed in a tragic gas explosion on the evening of August 20th 2015. Please help rebuild our lab stock so our kids can learn!
Our unique school represents the new Bronx.
We are truly an international community of teachers and students. Our students come from over 20 countries (Bangladesh, West and South Africa, Yemen, Albania, Central and South America, the Caribbean islands) and our staff have all spent significant time abroad, mostly as Peace Corps volunteers. Most students live at or below the poverty level and several live in some of the worst neighborhoods in the Bronx but travel up to 1.5 hours to attend school. These students WANT a good education and WANT to go to college. They are rich in cultural and ethnic identity, however they struggle to reach national academic benchmarks of achievement.
My Project
Our newly remodeled lab space and 2 classrooms have been destroyed. We need to restock our supplies from scratch. Glassware and timers are used by all 5 teachers in our Science department. They will be used in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Astronomy classes. We want our students to be able to DO science as soon as possible. Your donation will help our students learn science as it should be learned - through practice and experimentation!
