The cost of physical motor materials, music selections, and an inexpensive CD player for this proposal is $523, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.
This proposed project is designed to support the children's work in a Child Development Center with 85% low income students of racially diverse demographics. The center is housed in the oldest elementary school that still operates in the State of California. The kindergarten is the youngest group in this San Francisco School District Child Development Center.
The grant is written to cover the cost of materials to integrate cross-curricular experiences. The Child Development Department budget has been cut more than 3 million dollars in the past two years. Now the budget is so limited that the teachers will need to write grant proposals in their spare time and depend upon generous donations to augment basic materials.
The proposed "Movin' and Groovin'" curriculum will incorporate enjoyable activities improving students' small and large muscle skills; kinesthetics, movement, music, sensory experiences and academics. Specifically, the teacher will provide give initial experiences teaching the group how to move and be creative. Next the children will have teacher guidance and encouragement so students may cooperatively plan and create their own movement, dance, motor skill games and rhythmic activities.
Research shows kinesthetic learning provides greater retention while motor skill integration aids the brain development and academic successes on many levels.
The funds are needed to purchase equipment including; physical motor materials, music selections, an inexpensive CD player to implement exciting activities during the project year. After creating their own works the children will share their successful "products" with each other in peer demonstrations.
The project will conclude with a student performance for peers and parents. Afterwards, the materials will be used to sustain these opportunities for this and future classes. A minimum of 28 children will participate in this inaugural year. Many more children will benefit from using equipment in the future years.
Thank you for your kind generosity. Your donation will help a most wonderful group of children who will appreciate your generosity.
