Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our Transitional Kindergarten and Kindergarten students spend much of their school year learning about taking care of the earth, plants, and other living things.
Planting seeds and watching them on our playground will allow us to fully grasp the plant life cycle, learn the responsibility of caring for living things, and learn how planting more is a way to care for our environment.
This project will provide our classes with the seeds, soil, and tools needed to plant and observe our seeds' progress from seedlings to fully mature plants. The books and activities will allow students to expand their learning in the classroom as well.
While in the garden, they will learn about the plant life cycle, different kinds of plants, planting and picking fruits and vegetables, studying bees and their importance, observing birds and other wildlife, and the manual upkeep of the garden itself.
This garden will contribute to the learning of our students in the classroom as well as contribute to our playground by allowing for outdoor learning opportunities.
