My Project
A lot of times, our students don’t have a safe place to go to. They are left to the streets and whatever dangers and pressures lie there. Sometimes, students also are very hungry and are on the search for snacks or food. I see the same students everyday and I want to show them that my classroom is a safe space for them to come and be with their friends or somewhere they can stay if they have downtime before sports and any extracurricular activities.
When students are comfortable, they learn better.
My students recently put up a roll of LED lights and I turned off the lights on one side of the room and they seemed to respond really well to it. I had been buying snacks with my own money and sometimes if a student was tired, I’d offer them a snack and it would improve their learning. Creating a safe space for students to know that that can come and get a snack and hangout without judgement but also creating a learning environment that suits them and their way of learning.
With these modifications and decorations I feel like it will create a home away from home for the students who are constantly in search of that safe space and that homey feeling.
