My students are amazing! We are a Title I school, meaning a majority of our students qualify for the free or reduced lunch program. I have a classroom of 21 pre-k students ages 4 to 5 years. They are very energetic and excited about learning. Many of my pre-k babies deal with unfortunate situations of life when they are away from school, I would love for their classroom to be the escape from that. A place where they can be anything and do anything! My job is not easy by no means, but the love I have for my class each year is hard to explain. I purchase many things for my class every year with no complaints. This program will be wonderful for myself and extremely wonderful for my students.
My Project
These materials will expose my students to different hands-on activities. Science is everywhere in the world around us. Technology is continuously expanding into every aspect of our lives. Mathematics is in every occupation, every activity we do in our lives. By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a passion for it and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM field.
STEM education helps to bridge the ethnic and gender gaps sometimes found in math and science fields.
With these STEM activities, my students will be able to be innovative and creative. They will understand that math and science can be both fun and interesting. Each stem activity my students will love taking on each exciting challenge as they explore physical science concepts. For example, the Building Brick STEM Challenge my students will be able to construct a bridge for a car to cross to creating a marble maze.
Hurricane Harvey had a traumatizing impact on our students. Their lives were turned upside down in a matter of days due to flooding or not having electricity for weeks. I want to provide them with a stable and welcoming classroom for them to enter everyday.
