Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
We have almost 1,000 first and second grade students in our primary school. We are part of a Title I school where everyone gets free breakfast and lunch. Many of our students come from poverty stricken homes and need more than an education from me. They need love, acceptance, and support as well.
The staff at our school works so hard to make school a fun and inviting place for all of our students.
You never come to our campus on a night or weekend without finding someone working late, trying to make a fun lesson for their students. You also see the thousands and thousands of dollars our teachers spend out of their own pockets each week. We want to give our students the most successful start possible!
My Project
We are getting ready to begin our light and sound unit in my first grade classroom. There are so many awesome ideas for activities to go along with this unit and the standards we will cover. We will use the wax paper, plastic wrap, and aluminum foil to discover what happens when light passes through transparent and opaque surfaces, and we will discover what happens when light hits a reflective surface.
We will also be able to create a solar powered car, bug, and windmill.
We will see that light is a form of energy. The tuning forks will help us to learn about light and vibration. There are so many fun ways for my students to learn about light and sound!
