I currently have 24 students in my third grade classroom who come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. They come to me possessing various learning styles with a wide range of academic abilities. My students are eager, energetic and love to learn. With each month it seems the expectations for student learning continue to rise. For the students to achieve these rising goals, we must provide them with a solid academic foundation. By differentiating instruction and meeting children at their various levels to take them to new heights and provide hands-on activities to enhance and encourage learning will help build a strong academic foundation for all students.
My Project
My third grade scientists will soon be learning about weather. I am requesting a set of nonfiction Magic Tree House books for a class novel to integrate Language Arts and Science which we will read together. I am also requesting other nonfiction books to create a mini library of weather related literature.
Providing and reading many books about weather will help create a literature-rich environment for my students as they learn about science standards.
These books will be read aloud to students, read by students to self or to a partner, and used as resources for learning.
