My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds. I have 23 awesome 1st graders. They are funny, creative, energetic and have plenty of stories to tell. I want to encourage and give them a more welcoming and positive environment. They are excited about to school and class. I want to continue to foster that academically within them. I want them to continue to know and believe that they can do anything, despite any obstacles they may face.

My classroom is about building skills to make relationships with one another because we are a Family at the end of the day, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways.

We celebrate little wins together each day. There is nothing like that ah hah look on their face when they realize they understand the content. Those teachable moments are the best for them and me.

My Project

I am requesting flexible seating resources for my classroom. With these resources, my students will be able to simply focus on the academic material at hand, and not having a hard time sitting in their seats. By giving them the choice to choose their seating, the student will feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed.

The requested bounce ball, bands on the chair, and wobbly cushion will allow my students to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which will help keep their young minds more alert and focused.

Flexible seating will encourage students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused and productive. If they are calm and comfortable then they are more engaged.
