Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are incredible. I have 24 motivated English Language Learners who are eager to learn. My students come from low socioeconomic backgrounds with limited resources available to them. We are a Title I, Performance Improvement School with one hundred percent of our students on the free lunch program. Many parents work two jobs and are struggling to support their families.

Though their environment may not be conducive to learning, my students have an insatiable love of learning.

I know that if we provide them with the right support, resources, and opportunities, they can experience success.

My Project

The FIRST LEGO League Jr. program is here and ready to go! The program is designed to introduce STEM concepts to kids through building with LEGO. Currently, we have a robotics club at our school for upper grades but I feel that my students can be ready and prepared to join the program.

One aspect of STEAM is technology and Legos can play a big part.

I’ve included 4 sets of Lego make your own movie. The Stop-motion animation is easy with accessible apps available for tablets and laptops. Students will get an easy introduction to animation. Mini movies can be made in as little as an hour. Students will use their creativity in small groups to come up with an original piece.

The Chromebook will be used to video their creations using a green screen so they can make their own movie in a group. I also want to use the Chromebook to show my students videos of STEM projects and models. The Klutz Lego gadget will be used in groups to create models they gave seen online.
