This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Being a teen wasn't easy when I was a kid, and it seems like it's only getting tougher.

In my three Language Arts classes, I run across kids from all different walks of life.

One thing that they share, no matter where they are from, is the fact that at some point they've had a difficult time being themselves. They need outlets for their thoughts and need to be able to see that they're not alone with their, often depressed and confused, feelings.

My Project

By getting books by Laurie Halse Anderson and others in her style, my 90-plus students will have an outlet. They'll have something to read to help them see thru the dense fog that is being a middle school student. These books will serve as a tool and friend, letting them know that the world isn't crashing down on them and that they can make smart, informed decisions.

Having these books will make a real, life-altering impact on my students' lives.

They'll be able to connect to literature in a way that they never have before. These books will both entertain and teach. The entertainment component is a bonus to what they'd gain and how they'd grow as students, and as young adults.
