Our Extra Supplies Need A Home!

Help me give my students storage for their extra school supplies. They have had bins under their chairs, but those quickly got cracked or dirty. I would like each student to have a drawer that they can access.

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from a diverse set of backgrounds, beliefs, and experiences. However, despite their differences, they come together to help one another. Hardworking, determined, committed are the words I would use to describe not only my students, but the families who've raised them. Many of them work tirelessly to give their children a taste of the American Dream. Along with their parents, the children know that they need to follow in their footsteps to achieve their personal successes. The students appreciate the after school activities they've been blessed to partake in, activities other children do not always have the opportunities to engage in. With this, they can use their talents to give back to their community and help others along the way.

My hope is to continue embodying this sentiment for my students.

I want to work hard to foster the learning environment they rightfully deserve under my teaching. So, I hope that I can gain assistance in doing this for my students and future generations I will mold.

My Project

Over the many years of teaching third grade, I have watched students bring all of their brand new supplies to school on the first day: highlighters, red pens, pencils, erasers, paper, colored pencils, markers, crayons, index cards, Post-It Notes, scissors, glue sticks, you name it. The problem is that we don't use every single one of these supplies every single day, so it quickly becomes a challenge for students to keep their desks tidy with all these items overflowing.

Not only are desks overflowing, but all these extra supplies keep students distracted as they reach for those scissors to play with.

Even worse, those brand new supplies get broken or lost. We have tried this year to keep items in a bin students brought in, but this created more of a problem. Students' bins slowly became dirty, cracked, and were noisy as students kicked them under their chairs. I need a better way for students to store these supplies and keep them in good condition for when students need them.

I hope to get these ten drawer cabinets, so that each student can have a designated drawer to keep their extra supplies. This will be perfect for when we actually need these supplies, and it will help the students keep their desks mess free with only the supplies used daily. Help us solve our organization problem to keep student focused and ready to take on challenges in our classroom.
