My Students

Do you recall the excitement of commencing school? Stepping into a classroom with your name tag on the desk, sharpened pencils, and crisp new notebooks ready to be used. This year the emotions of my students will vary when school commences. Some students haven't stepped foot in a classroom for nearly 18 months. Others just arrived from South America and the Carribean with little or no schooling. Those students who did attend school relied heavily on technology. They were handed earphones and laptops instead of pencils and notebooks. Social distancing rules were followed in the classroom. The classrooms were kept with simple decor due to the uncertainty of the school year, and masks muffled the sounds of bilingual language repertoires being spoken.

My scholars deserve a welcoming, warm, and safe classroom to step into.

They live in an urban community that was hit hard during the pandemic. In addition, they attend a Tier I school with limited resources. Despite the adversities faced my scholars are resilent students who survived and exceled during a difficult school year. They learned how to coexist via Google Meets and now will come together in the classroom.

My Project

All of my students deserve a welcoming, cozy, and safe classroom to walk into in September. The flexible seats and cart will allow for the creation of a friendly and quiet reading area. Students will be able to hold a book once again and read amongst themselves or with a partner enticing the love of reading. The storage cart will allow for a STEAM area to be created granting students easy access to math manipulatives, art supplies, and science materiales. Having a STEAM area will allow students to acquire the tools that they need to enhance and aid in their learning. The easel will allow for students to participate in math discourse while presenting their work. Additional supplies, will allow for a welcoming feeling to be created through the creation of bullentin boards, window decor, anchor charts, and much more.

Students will want to return every day to a classroom that can supply all of their learning needs while feeling safe and having structure.

All of these materials will enhance classroom routines and independence. They will allow students to know where materials are located, grant them a space to share their learning, and participate in discourse with peers.

Going back to school and stepping into the classroom should be exciting for all. Aid me in creating this fun and safe learning environment for my 3rd Grade Dual Language class.
