This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Have you ever had an accident? Have you ever been around a student who has had an accident? Sometimes at public schools students have accidents and we need to be able to change them or to wash their clothing. We also want to teach them life skills and how to wash their own clothing.
My students live in a very low income area.
They have disabilities including Autism, Down Syndrome, XXXY Syndrome etc. I now work in a K-8 grade room. The students' needs all vary substantially. They love music, Justin Bieber, going on field trips and love to please people. They are all unique and beautiful in their own way. Many of their parents work very hard during school hours and sometimes our students do not have the time to learn certain important life skills at home because of that.
My Project
We are requesting a dryer. I have been in my classroom for 6 years now. I recently, due to budget cuts, took over both Special Ed Classrooms. In the older students room, there is a washer and dryer, but the dryer hasn't worked for at least 6 years. My students love to get along with other students. Sometimes a student will have an accident or will come to school dirty because of busy parents who don't notice that they are wearing dirty clothing. Because of this, I would love to teach them how to run the washer and a new dryer so that they can be responsible for cleaning their own clothing. We also would love to provide clean clothing for our students who have accidents. Also, randomly throughout the year students who know me and trust me, come to me because they have had accidents, or their friends have had accidents but they are worried to tell their parents or another teacher. This will help us provide in the best way.
This project is so important because washing clothing is an important life skill.
It is also important to keep our students clean smelling and with clean clothing so that they can hang out with their general education peers. The dryer will also save many students embarrassment, and will teach our students how to use a dryer properly. This will change our lives and will add an amazing skill set to our older students. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
