Our Classroom Needs Groceries!

Help me give my students a grocery store experience with international foods, a sturdy grocery cart, and a checkout counter.

My Project

Many of our preschool children have not had a typical early childhood experience thus far since the pandemic. The isolation and limited social interactions have defiantly made a difference in their creativity and imaginative play. Our classroom has 12 rambunctious little people with an array of personalities, 6 children with special needs and 6 typically developing.

Dramatic play gives children opportunities to play creatively, act out scenarios, and create their own imaginative play that relates to real world experiences.

As we have learned about community helpers and built on that topic, the children have become more inquisitive, imaginative, and cooperative with each other. We are now changing our dramatic play area to represent various community stores, shops, and buildings such as doctor's office, animal hospital, bakery, and now a grocery store. These materials will definitely enhance their dramatic play experiences. The checkout counter will enhance the children's experience by making it more authentic with the props and shopping cart. The international foods will introduce cultural food to the children and allow us to link our cooking in the classroom to our grocery store shopping lists and support the thematic learning throughout the classroom that is outlined in our new curriculum.
