Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each day, my goal is to meet the individual needs of my students, value their learning styles, and celebrate their growth. I teach literacy to 50 fourth graders.
There are a variety of different personalities and learning styles present in my classroom.
These kids come from a low socioeconomic status and are raised in poverty. Combined, these factors present an extraordinary challenge to academic and social success of my students. Despite these overwhelming challenges, my second graders love to come to school everyday; full of life, ready to learn, and excited to create new positive and meaningful experiences with their classmates and peers. In their eyes, you can see hope, joy, and a thirst for love, understanding, and knowledge. Together, we set high expectations in our classroom believing that each one of them has the potential to succeed.
My Project
My students need an organized, engaging and comfortable library. We need a large carpet that fits all students, along with book baskets and bookcases to organize and display our books. Together, we set high expectations in our classroom believing that each one of them has the potential to succeed. A majority of my students love to work on the carpet. I have students who love to roll while reading a book during independent reading, solving math problems, and/or reading a book with a partner on the carpet. The rug is without a doubt their favorite place to learn. Unfortunately, our carpet is way too small for the number of kids in my classroom. I sometimes struggle with placing them on the rug during whole group instruction and story telling time because of the limited space. Students will also benefit from having an organized library that is both inviting and engaging!
