With a beautiful view of the mountains in Tennessee, the students I teach are in a Title 1 school. Most students receive a free lunch and many have backpack food sent home over the weekends.
Despite the many disadvantages they may face, my students are eager to learn new content and knowledge.
My students continuously engage in rigorous tasks. They are kind, collaborative workers. I envision these students being a part of the working community one day, and I want to provide all of the support I can in order to get them there.
My Project
I plan to use the document camera to project different texts on our class Smartboard. I plan to project texts that the students don't have a personal copy of. For example, we may do an interactive read aloud of an article about the life cycle of butterflies. I would put the article under the document camera so the children could see it projected on the Smartboard. They would be able to see more clearly the title of the article, pictures in the article, and the way I model interacting with the text (e.g. highlighting, underlining, writing additional notes on the article).
This document camera will allow me to model how to read a text more deeply, give us a shared focus on a text, and allow better access to a text for all students.
We will use the document camera to display texts like dictionaries, articles, trade books, etc. Please help us better access texts as we explore and learn new knowledge by exploring various texts together with a document camera.
