My students need an easel on which I can place books, writing, messages, problems etc, and dry erase markers to help correct our writing on the white board.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a very low income school in Maryland. My school is also in a huge budget deficit from a previous administrator. As a second year teacher of 1st grade, I personally lack many of the resources accumulated by veteran teachers including a proper easel. Currently, a chair holds up a pad of chart paper to operate as an easel for the purpose of morning messages, whole class writing, and mapping out stories.
At the beginning of the school year, I was fortunate enough to have a veteran teacher donate an old wooden easel to me because she was receiving a new one from the school (as part of a new reading comprehension program for the upper grades). I was elated! A week later something better happened when the same teacher came back and wanted to trade easels because her new one was too bulky for her small classroom. This new easel was fantastic... it had a dry erase board, bins to store writing utensils, and even a place to hang comprehension anchor charts that we build as a class! I was so excited and my students loved being able to circle my "mistakes" in the morning message with dry erase markers. I also enjoyed not wasting chart paper every day on the morning message. Sadly, last week the same teacher came back and said that the new easel she gave me needed to go to the 6th grade teacher because the school was short an easel. So I am back to last year, using a make-shift easel that falls over whenever a student writes on it.
The solution to my problem is for the generous donors of Donors Choose to help me buy my classroom a proper easel! I found one that I feel fits all the need of my classroom but is cost effective as well. I am also including two sets of 6 dry erase markers in my request because they dry up very fast with how often we would use them!
Please support this cause! You can make it possible for my classroom to save trees while practicing writing and math problems. My students and I will have an easier time of sharing a writing experience and solving math equations. Thank you for considering our project and we hope you'll see how important something as simple as an easel can be!
