Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach 12 wonderful and bright students in a low income, high poverty school district. My students face a lot of challenges in and out of the classroom and need social, emotional, and behavioral support in order to succeed and be an active member within the community they live in. We are in a substantially separate classroom where we focus on increasing social skills and their academic abilities. My students truly are amazing, kind, and beautiful they just come from difficult environments which doesn’t allow for them to nurture specific skills needed to succeed in their everyday lives. Although my students have a hard time balancing their home and school life, when they are engaged in energetic, fun, and engaging learning they can and will thrive like all children.
My Project
These materials will ensure that each of my students are learning in a positively motivated classroom. I believe the classroom supplies and materials that I have asked for will be beneficial to my students’ learning in many ways. These incentives and materials will assist my students to meet certain expectations along the way. In our classroom, we use whiteboards and markers daily during our math and ELA lessons. The boards allow them to be interactive and allows students to show their work so that I can easily check for understanding, make corrections quickly and easily, and for student collaboration. Using dry-erase markers is fun for the students and the markers are much more engaging than the traditional pencil and paper. The chair bands will allow students to keep their feet moving while working at their seats as well. The clipboards allow for flexible movement around the classroom. Students will be able to work in areas that are comfortable for them. The clipboards will also easily allow them to work in partners or small groups.
It is through positive behavior that more meaningful learning is produced, creating a more productive and inspiring environment overall.
My students are motivated by praise and positive reinforces. They respond best to a positive behavior reward system, and by having prizes they are interested in, they are more motivated. The fidgets will serve as reinforcers for them to maintain their focus while being active learners. In our classroom, students earn dojo points which they can cash in for specific items in the prize box. The prize box toys will be an incentive students can work towards. I am confident my students will continue to shine and strive for more in and out of the classroom! We thank you in advance for your donations!
