Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember learning the names of the fifty states in elementary school? I do, and I can tell you every single state because I learned them in a song!
My students have severe physical disabilities as well as severe medical conditions and some cognitive delays.
My students are preschool to kindergarten age. Their functioning levels are from 4 months up to 5 years. My students attend a local elementary school in a special day class with lots of opportunities to mainstream with their typical developing peers.
My Project
My students love music! What is even better is that they learn through music! We just finished a unit learning about the star shape. Almost all of my students are now able to identify a star anywhere that they see it because we linked all of our activities to the song Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!
I love all different kinds of music, and I want my students to share in that. So I ordered a set of Multi-cultural instruments and various music and movement materials.
Often times, my students do not get all of the same opportunities as their typically developing peers when they are at home or out in the community because the general public and even their families have difficulties figuring out how to help their child.
I strive each day to help my students learn all the same things that their typically developing peers are learning and I know that they can accomplish that especially by using music to help them learn new concepts.
