Our Books Need a Home!

My students need a book shelf to organize the classroom library, making "just right books" easily accessible to students at all times.

My Students

The students I am going to be working with are eager students who look forward to coming to school each day, where they are greeted by a safe, engaging community. Teachers, parents and building staff work together as a team that provide high expectations and opportunities for students to excel in their educations.

First grade is a crucial year for building reading skills - Students begin to define themselves with respect to what kind of readers they are.

In many ways, 1st grade is a year of important transitions, children leave behind much of the play of preschool and kindergarten and dive into developing deeper academic skills. First graders progress from having beginner reading and writing skills to becoming beginning readers and writers, as they not only read and write more often, but with greater comprehension and ability, too.

As a first year teacher, I hope to continue to develop students' confidence in themselves as learners, instill a love of learning and a desire to learn and develop the skills and attitudes needed for students to communicate effectively, understand the world about them and participate effectively in a democratic society.

My Project

A bookshelf is desperately needed in my classroom to house our classroom library. They need a durable shelf so that the students have better access to them as well as protecting the books from bending. This bookshelf should hold the majority of our library.

As a first year teacher, I am trying to create a cozy learning environment for my students to foster their love for learning.

By donating to this project, you will make it possible for these students to have their own classroom library in which they can easily access books to read on their own instructional levels.

I am hoping to create an organized, comfortable reading area for students to be able to pull a good book off the shelf and get cozy with. A bookshelf would be a major step in this direction, making "just right" books easily accessible to all students.
